Photography Assignment - Light and Color
Well, shame on me. I bitched and complained about my white on white assignment for class, and wouldn’t you know it… I learned a lot! The first part of the assignment was to take a white object and move it into different lighting situations. Here’s a little collection of some of the pictures I took.
Isn’t that interesting? Look at how I got blue, yellow and cream all out of a pure white object. Such a good assignment!
You ever wonder why sometimes you take a picture outside on a clear day and you end up with a gorgeous picture, but its tinted red? Well sure, a talented Photoshopper can fix that, but who knew you could fix it in the camera? Ok, you savy people do, but I didn’t, so the next part of the assignment was to play with White Balance functions in the camera. We used the same object, in one location, and just changed the White Balance. Very interesting.
So a question: I have to write an ‘essay’ about color for my class next week and I have no idea what to do. It can be about anything having to do with color. The physics of light color, color blindness, animals that change colors, why some colors look better on some people…. anything. Got any ideas?

Very cool. I have not an artistic bone in my body … I am jealous of those who do!
What about something like … how color affects moods or the psyche? For instance, I read somewhere that McDonald’s uses red and yellow as their main colors because those hues incite hunger. Who knows. Could be a bunch of hooey.

Lol i remember reading your last post about not wanting to do this assignement and it is so cool how it turned out! Very interesting. As for your assignment.. how bout researching how colours affect peoples moods (colours that stimulated appetitie and evoke emotions) sorry thats all i got for you.. i’m pretty tired right now. good luck on the essay though.

hum… I am not going to be original neither, color effetc on people sounds interesting. What certain color’s convey; like blue (light) is friendly when you’ve got to speak to an assembly and black is the opposite in the same circumstances. Maybe, the use of color in psychomedicine…

How about how color relates to emotion. There are colors that cheer us up, others that make us sad, others that make us anxious and willing to purchase more items. (Marketers and Target use these with precision, I am convinced.)
In my very, very limited photography experience I am learning how important lighting is…..nice photos, and I’m glad you are learning new skills…good for you!
