Not a Dog Lover

I can’t even believe all the plans I’ve got for this weekend!  Tonight my real estate agent (otherwise known as my friend Mini) and I are going to the Scottsdale Culinary School for dinner.  Mmmm.  After that I’m meeting two old friends for drinks, and then I’m meeting up with my brother at a dive bar to see his friends’ band.  Tomorrow I’m going as africankelli’s date to a Halloween wedding, then to a Halloween party, then to another party with my bro.  And Sunday I’m going to a movie with my soon-to-not-be-pregnant friend Shayla, then I plan on packing and ordering myself a large Barros pizza.  Hamburger meat and black olive.  With a Pacifico.  mmmm again.

So, if you can’t beat the situation, take advantage of it, eh?  :-)

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how we get attached to things.  I think that’s one of the reasons why I loath garage sales so much.  Yeah, yeah, I’m a certified packrat, but I also get emotionally attached to things (don’t all girls?).  Like for instance, the stupid Ouija board.  At the garage sale someone picked it up and offered me fifty cents for it.  FIFTY CENTS?!  My mind immediately flew back to girls’ slumber parties and crazy nights in dorm rooms.  How could I give up a memory like that for fifty cents?  And how about all my panda bears?  True, I’ve kept a whole lot of my panda things, and 27 years-old is a little too old for stuffed animals, but every one of those came from someone who saw it and thought of me.  How could I sell them?

But my house…  I really have had a hard time with my house.  I was looking at pictures the other day and it is amazing how many memories I have attached to this first house of mine.  I got married while living in this house.  We’ve had 4 years of holidays and birthdays in this house.  We’ve had all kinds of parties and get-togethers.  Ryan and I carefully fixed this house to fit us.

And that is why I’ve decided to announce, in front of the blogosphere, my new found love and devotion for the dogs from hell next door.  Thank you for barking until 8am-5pm without stopping.  Thank you for making it impossible to relax in my own beautiful backyard during the very nicest part of the year.  Thank you for hanging over my wall howling at me as I do yard work.  Thank you for barking so loud that I can’t even hear my own thoughts INSIDE THE HOUSE.  For all these things, I thank you.  You have made it a joy and a pleasure to give up my first home.  And for that, I’m forever grateful.

OK, that dog looks pure evil. I think I’d be afraid…

Sounds like you have a great weekend planned … Sans husband.

Do you have to dress up for the Halloween wedding?

  2. Holy crap! This week has gone by already? You’ve been to Mexico?! And, I’ve apparenlty been caught up in my own life.
How was your holiday? Man…I would have killed to be drunk on tequila on a mexican beach. That’s nice stuff. Sigh. I could SO get into that.
Pththththht to you on garage sales!. Other peoples’s junk, is a good thing! No guilt on spending money on stuff you don’t need…ya know what i mean?
I like the dog next door. He’s not so bad. He seems quiet over the internet. I like the cactus beside him…that is cool.
Have you found a new place?

  3. BTW>>>> I’ve been perturbed about this new word verification thing…your number thing, however, is not quite so bad.
just thought you might want to know.

Eh, that picture is mildly intimidating, to say the least… but you are so positive, finding something to thank them for. I am impressed. :)

I’m feeling you about waking up alone on Christmas. I’ve done it every year since I met M. :(

When I upload some new photos on monday I’m going to send you a photo of our dog here in Brazil…he’s the sweetest thing in the world!

    Michele sent me your way.

I’ve never been one to get all that attached to a house but "things" are a different matter. And like you said, it’s usually because of who gave it to you. But they do tend to accumulate and eventually you have to let some of them go.

I guess there’s a silver lining in most things, if you look hard enough, and I guess you found one in those annoying dogs. At least you won’t have them next door in the new house!

What a horrible evil looking dog - and I bet he has the bark to match!

We have a couple of nasty barking dogs in the next garden - when they are let out they go barmy.

    Much symph!

What a way to stay positive about having to leave your first house! That’s awesome. I’m a total packrat, too, and even though I moved to a different state just a couple month ago, I somehow managed to hang on to a whole bunch of stuff I don’t really need. I agree that it’s worth the memories though, even if you don’t think about them all the time.

I am most definitely a dog lover, but that dog looks like a Halloween decoration. Yikes!

    Michele sent me.

  13. M says:

So, seriously. Who let the dogs out?

(*waits for someone to smack her*)

  14. Kimberly says:

Oh, I understand getting attached to a house! We’re considering moving from the first house that we’ve owned, and though I know it may be a good idea, it’s difficult for me to consider. If only there were some dogs next door…

Hope you have a wonderful weekend! I’m here from Michele’s.

  15. Phoenix says:

Yikes!! Glad I don’t live next to that dog ‘cuz I would have to do more than call the cops for the noise!

    Hi from Michele!

  16. Mary says:

    Great blog

    Found you at Michele’s

Do the neighbors not realize that their dogs are annoying?

my neighbor has multiple little rat dogs that bark but at least she realizes it and gets them to shut up.
Plus you can’t hear them inside because they are small.

  17. Yaeli says:

I think you should be more angry at the dogs owners than the dogs themselves. It is up to the owners to exercise some control over their pets (or should that be pests?) and make sure they are well behaved.

I hope your new neighbours and their pets are much nicer to you and your husband.

    Michele sent me.

Wow. 17 comments (soon to be 18).

So, I have a question. The whole panda thing.. did you ever get called "Manda-panda"?…I did. So..I was just thinking..that maybe I wasn’t the only one. Of course..my favorite is still.. "Amanda, Amanda Hugnkiss".. Damn Bart Simpson
