The Cola War

I always assumed that the world was divided into two silent sides of a war. You know: The Coke Drinkers vs. The Pepsi Drinkers. I am a staunch Coke drinker. When I go to a restaurant and they serve Pepsi, I drink water or iced tea. We go to AMC theaters as opposed to Harkins because they have Coke. I have never once bought Pepsi in the store. And when I’m at my parents’ house (Pepsi drinkers!) I choose to drink Mesa tap water instead, mysterious floating things and all. I don’t have anything against Pepsi drinkers, mind you, I just don’t understand them.

I thought everyone was like me. Turns out they’re not. For my Strategy in Business class last night we did a case study (oh the dreaded case studies!) on the Cola Wars. To get us to be interactive, the teacher had us take a taste challenge reminiscent of the Pepsi Challenge. There were three to taste: Coke, Pepsi, and a generic. I got them right without using a single brain cell. I was one of FOUR out of fifty who got it right. How can that be?

When I raised my hand to point out the obvious that there are Coke Drinkers, and there are Pepsi Drinkers, and we all feel strongly about our drinks, the whole class looked at me like I was crazy. For the rest of the discussion people kept referring to me in this context: “For the most part consumers, except Amanda, do…”

So who’s with me? Who out there can’t live without their Diet Coke in the morning? Who chooses McDonald’s for a hangover because you can get a syrupy fountain Coke at 6 in the morning? Who else thinks Pepsi rots your teeth by the end of the can? Anyone?

I did a project on coke vs pepsi and all my results came out that coke is healthyer, tastier and doesen’t rot our teeth

  3. big fat and tall says:

I think that restraunts should ban all pepsi prodects because it would boost sales and make 94% of the people happy

How about Mecca Cola? I’ve seen that in stores lately since it came over from Europe to Canada. Personally I dont see the point in it, Cola is Cola and I don’t really care where the money goes. Its targeted to Muslims obviously, and they claim they give 10% of there profits to Islamic Charities, which is a good thing, but its hard to tell what that really means for the Charities. I suppose anything is better than nothing, but Coca-Cola has a Plant in Ramallah which employs 200 local people. So really which does more for Islamic people?

Coke is coke! Whether you decided to appease your sweet tooth with Pepsi, or go for the more smooth, classic approach of Coca-Cola. However, one must consider the actions taken by these soft drinks giants to make these favourable products available to you. I just finished reading an article on the massive effect Coca-Cola plants are having on the communities in India. In many rural areas near these bottling plants, the quality of living is being terribly affected through pollution, and massive water shortages, caused by these Coca-Cola plants. In which, Coca-cola refuses to show concern toward, or take responsibility for. There are tons of similar cases regarding Coke plants internationally on how they are ruining lives of millions. So next, time you go to take a sip of your favourite Coke, think about what you might be contributing to.

In class we had to read an article on coca cola wars then had to do an assignment. In our article we discussed the protest of people not wanting cola in their countries.
in Febuary after coca cola closed several plants 91 workers were fired because of protesters not wanting cola in their country.
the AUC released a death threat , union members have been killed in the past two years because of people not wantigng coke but pepsi.
So all in all all this arguing is caused by people not wanting a certian soft drink in their country and preferring another one!

iIn my opnion i prefer to drink either one!

I found out today that Coke took over Pepsi in Venezuala. Really this topic doesnt mean much to me, and its starting to get outragous. Apperently Pepsi’s lack of resources was said to be the reason for the switch over to Coke. The distributing company in Venezuala shockingly took Coke’s ten percent of market over Pepsi’s forty five percent. Venezuala told Pepsi that they wanted to modernize and broaden the geographic scope of their business. Pepsi replied saying the action was "illegal in several respects" and that it would " exhaust all legal remedies in the United Stated and Venezuala. Now thats ridiculous.

well that my opinion but i’m not here to rant. i’m stuck doing some assignment for a business class so..
Did you know that in 1966 in Tel-Avive coke refused to do business in isreal do to lost profit in the arib market also, in 1961 isreal gov stoped production of a coke plant

Hey! Pepsi and Coke are both competitive businesses, who are both just trying to sell their product. Even though pepsi and coke are both just a can full of sugar and caffine, people have this mind set that one is better then the other, b/c of the background of their companies.
Over all it comes down to the company and where they are being sold and manufactured. People have complants about coca-cola being bias about political and religious beleifs. Coke is a company who employes local people to work in their local plants. They are just trying to sell their products and win over the 26 million consummers they lost from the boycotting in Iraq for almost 4 decades.

To tell you the truth I can’t even taste the diffence between the 2.. When i go into a store and I looking to buy either whatever one is closet I grab it. Sometimes in the malls there’s those little stands seeing whether or not you can taste the diffrence between the 2 and I usually get them both wrong. Did you know that people in the Phillipenes use Coca-cola as like some what of a holy water for healings and such.. what do you think about that??
A photographer in a city In India (Chennai) was threatened to be sued by coke for taking a picture with the coke logo with a dry water hand pump with empty vessels waiting to be filled.
seeing that the coca-cola bottling pplants are making communities in India having water shortages and polluting the remaining water and soil.. So tell me Coke or Pepsi??

I am just asking (I’m doing a project at school.) what is it that makes you prefer one to the other???

It is opinion that coke dose not diserve the appreciation that it has.if you look at columbia coca cola has for a better word raped the country. coke supports pretty well all of the war, drug, prostitution lords of columbia.in ww2 coke gave all the us soldiers all the free coke they could handle it was not to be nice i will tell you that.it was to advertise as much as they could the more and more they gave away the more advertiseing they got.then they had to find a way to get it there cheaper then shipping it so the built cola making factories in germany. coke said it was for the benefit of there u.s. soldiers but it was really for the benefit of them selfs.they built the factories so after the war they would already have a working cola plant.and the germans would drink because it was providing jobs there so they probibly did not even care that it was amercian they liked it because 1 provided jobs 2 tasty 3 did not care what drink it was it was bringing them money and jobs. so why would they care they lost they lucky to even be germany and not u.s.germ. thats my opinion and i dont care if you like it or not thats just waht i think………

In my opinion I personally think some of these discuitions are pretty stupid lets face it coke and pepsi are competitors, all they care about is who can make more money and how to get there brand out there more then it already is, I mean do you think that coke gave away free pop to the men in the army becauce they are nice, no it was to advertise and to make a trademark of america. Coke was the first company to sponcer the Olympic games they did that because they knew they would get tones of advertisements and more people would but the product.Did you know that in India A non government Organization said that both pepsi and coke contains pesticidesand insecticides that are deadly! The pepsi soft drink products had 36 times the level of pesticides residues permitted under European Union regulations and coke 30 times. So coke and pepsi both don’t care about the people which should be their number one concern so why should we care about them.So I won’t but there products

  18. nito alzogo says:

dude wats wrong wit u? ive been drinkin pepsi since i was 12 years old and now im 22 and ma dentist even says my teeth r in perfect condition so there u freak hahaha

Gross! Soda is nasty tasting and nasty for your bodies. Pepsi puts out better juice products than coke. Pepsi distrubutes Dole which constistently is made from twice as much real juice than Minutemaid. Even the light Dole juice has more real stuff in it than a regular minutemaid and half the calories. Pepsi also distributes Sobe. I think that pepsi has done a better job providing healthy options and lots of variety. People need to quit drinking carbonated corn syrup because of diabetes, obesity, caries, and caffine addiction. Pepsi makes it easier.
